History and Evolution

I986 Lifting Gear Division
Barton was founded in 1986 by William Barton and his father, Roy Barton, as a lifting gear specialist. Our products and services extended to the supply, repair and refurbishment of all types of lifting gear equipment from standard hand operated chain hoists and blocks, wire ropes and lifting clamps to custom designed lifting solutions such as lifting beams. Over the years, extensive design and manufacturing projects were undertaken for the local aerospace company Bombardier, the electrical generator manufacturer F.G. Wilson and the shipyard Harland & Wolff.

1989 Safety at Height Division
Barton became in 1989 the Registered Designer and Installer in Ireland for Latchways Fall Protection Systems. For the last 25 years, we have built up a substantial reputation in the field of access and fall protection safety solutions.
Our expertise in this field is far ranging, from commercial or residential developments, shopping centres, historical monuments, financial headquarters, pharmaceutical plants and factories, electricity generating stations to wind farms and sewage treatment works. We are involved in prestigious projects such as the Waterfront Hall and Titanic Museum in Belfast, Trinity College and St Patrick’s Cathedral in Dublin, the Corinthia Hotel and the Museum of the Order of St John in London, Bristol Airport and the Genzyme Plant in Belgium.

2006 On-Shore and Off-Shore Wind Turbine Division
Capitalising on our expertise in the lifting gear and working at height sectors, Barton has become a leading provider of services to the on-shore and off-shore wind turbine industry supporting the construction, operation and maintenance of wind farms. The company has developed strong working and business relationships with major wind tower manufacturers, wind farm developers and owners in Britain, Ireland and Europe. Our existing customers include Vestas-Celtic, MHI Vestas, Nordex UK, Scottish Power, ABO Wind, ESBI, E.On, Statoil, DONG Energy, Scottish Power, Gamesa, RES and GE.
